The Sea near Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

In 1888, Van Gogh painted the sea at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in southern France. Not calm, still water — a sea that moves and foams. Cobalt-blue waves, small fishing boats, and an air full of energy. The painting radiates movement, as if you’re right in the middle of it.
