Wassily Kandinsky painted this work in 1913 as a personal color study, never intended to be exhibited. He used it as a reference while working on his large paintings.
Kandinsky believed that colors could evoke feeling, just like music does. He literally heard sounds when he saw colors: bright yellow sounded like a high note, deep blue like something low and full. Twelve squares, twelve unique color combinations. It is over a hundred years old and still looks as if it were made yesterday.
Take Kandinsky’s most famous color study with you in intricate knit detail.
